Story 1: ManUp Iowa Mentoring Program Graduation Ceremony Week (January 9th – 13)

ManUp Iowa hosted it’s 11th official Graduation Ceremony Week during the second week of January 2017. In total, 4 ManUp Iowa Mentoring Program locations hosted ceremonies for a total of close to 60 youth. The ceremonies are always a special time for ManUp Iowa Mentees as they are honored for their hard work and progress in the Program as well as for the positive changes they are making outside of Program hours. Thank you to all who helped make the 11th Graduation Ceremony Week possible. Your support is what helps make these special ceremonies possible. Equally as important to thanking our supporters is giving a shout out to all of the youth for their hard work in and outside of programming which is in essence, the most significant factor that led them to graduate a Program Milestone. If anyone is interested in viewing pictures or videos of our most recent ceremony or ceremonies from the past, please check out our Facebook page and YouTube pages. The links are below.

Story 2: New Program Location Launched (January 9th, 2017)

On January 9th of 2017, the ManUp Iowa Mentoring Program had the honor of launching its fifth Program location at McCombs Middle School. The school is on the south side of Des Moines and is located within the Des Moines Public School District. Logistically, the McCombs site is significant because it allows ManUp Iowa to have locations spread tactically throughout the four corners of the greater Des Moines area which is important because youth from around the district will now have equal access to the Programs unique and highly sought after service.

Currently, three of the ManUp Iowa Mentoring Programs Mentors are placed at the location on Mondays after-school. The team is happy to be back serving alongside McCombs Middle School teachers and staff and look forward to continuing an on-going partnership with the school thanks to funding from United Way of Central Iowa. Stay tuned for more information about this new program location.

 Story 3: Fiscal Sponsorship
Thriving Families Counseling Services and the ManUp Iowa Mentoring Program

ManUp Iowa is launching a new chapter to its mission owing to an exciting new partnership with Thriving Families Counseling Services (TFCS), a local nonprofit 501(c)3 charity! TFCS is well known in the community for providing fatherhood-related services which aligns well with ManUp Iowa’s mission and the young men it serves.

Through TFCS’s fiscal sponsorship and partnership with ManUp Iowa, you may now give the gift of sponsoring a youth(s) in the ManUp Iowa Mentoring Program. Due to the overwhelming demand and response to the Program, the wait list has grown exponentially. As the Program grows, so does the need for funding in order to finance the Programs with staff and related expenses. For the youth who are currently enrolled, the Program has proven to make a difference with their grades, school attendance, community engagement, behaviors at school, home and the community and much more.
